TYPES OF ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW SCHEDULES
**PLEASE NOTE: You must meet job requirements for all of the following
options:
Open Interview Schedules: Students submit interview
preference via CARS for those interview schedules in which they
have an interest. The computer will randomly select students for
interview schedules.
Preselected Interview Schedules Interested Students:
Students indicate preference for those interview schedules in which they
have an interest. Resumes of these students will be available
to companies. The companies will select individuals for their preselected
interview schedules.
Preselected Interview Schedules Resume Searches/Resume
Books: Companies may also preselect from resume searches
or Masters online resume books. These interview schedules are
posted, but students will be unable to submit preference for them.
Half Open, Half Preselected Interview Schedules:
Job Postings can also have multiple schedules with any mix of the above types of schedules.

ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW POLICIES
-
Registration
-
Registration is required of all Carlson School students using our facilities
and must be completed prior to preferencing for postings.
To interview on campus students must:
1) Complete CARS Registration online
and 2) Upload a resume to CARS.
-
Interview Policy
-
Campus interviewing is restricted to students receiving a Carlson School degree,
or other specific degrees (ICP, or BS/BA Actuarial). Some companies will ask that a student
not interview with the same company more than once (even if they are
coming for more than one position). A student can only interview for positions
for which they meet stated qualifications (graduation date, degree,
etc). This policy has been adopted at the request of the company
recruiters.
-
Interview Schedules
-
For changes and cancellations check your CARS
account. It is the most reliable source.
-
Waiting List
-
If an interview schedule is full, students may sign up on a waiting list through
CARS between 12:30 pm three working days prior and 12:30 pm one working day prior to the
interview date. On the day of the interview, the interviewer will receive a list and resumes
for all students on the waiting list. The interviewer may choose
additional names from this list to interview. If you are selected to interview you will be contacte that morning.
Dress appropriately in case you are called.
-
Cancellations
-
If a student cannot meet the obligation to interview with a company, he or she must
remove his or her name from the interview schedule by the end of the sign-up period. To cancel the interview after that date passes,
the student must come to the Business Career Center. There is almost no excuse for missing an interview. However, if an
emergency should arise, students should contact the BCC front desk at 612-624-0011 as soon as possible so we will
not lose the interview opportunity for other students. (Please see further detail under
No Shows below.) This policy is designed
to help students maximize their interview opportunities.
-
No Shows
-
A student who does not show up for an interview in the BCC on the day it is scheduled will be immediately locked out of CARS.
To get a CARS account reactivated, students MUST meet with a career coach in the BCC and write a letter of apology to the recruiter.
The student is responsible for initiating this meeting. Every effort will be made to schedule this meeting as soon as possible
after the request. To schedule, call 612-624-0011 or visit our front desk at 1-110. Please note: The BCC reserves
the right to remove students who have no showed from future interviewing schedules.
Again, "No Shows" result in being removed from CARS.
After 2 No Shows, you will lose office privileges.
-
Citizenship Status
-
Many companies interviewing on-campus are interested
in interviewing students who are Authorized to work indefinitely in the
United States regardless of citizenship status. Therefore, students must
meet this requirement, if specified, in order to interview with these particular companies.

names, addresses and phone numbers of company representatives responsible
for making on-campus recruiting arrangements. Also available, are current Carlson students and Carlson alumni
who are willing to talk with students about their jobs, companies and careers
-
Company Information
-
The best information about companies is available on companies' websites, which can be found by searching the
Search Contacts pages on the student and alumni CARS pages. The BCC web site also has a list of job research sites,
and a list of companies that the Carlson School works with, including links to the companies' web pages.
-
Interview Evaluations
-
Recruiters are asked to complete a student evaluation after each interview.
Students may view their evaluations only after accumulating three
evaluations in their file. Students must view the first three
evaluations with a counselor; thereafter they may look at additional evaluations
in groups of three. The BCC assures companies that the
invaluable feedback will be kept anonymous, therefore the grouping in threes
for review is necessary.
-
Recruiter Evaluations
-
Students are asked to fill out a recruiter evaluation form after every
interview. Recruiters will give each interviewee an evaluation form after the interview,
or ask for one at the front desk. Complete forms can be turned in at the front desk.
Many recruiters appreciate feedback on how effective they are at interviewing.
-
Job Offers
-
Students are asked through CARS to report all offers. Click here to report an offer. This means offers received
through our services and offers received through other sources,
whether the offer is accepted or declined. This data
is critical in serving our students effectively. We prepare quarterly
and annual reports on Carlson School graduates used internationally as one measure of the quality of Carlson School grads.
A source for this information is the offer forms that students fill out.
Offer forms help students, employers, and us by reporting
this information. Salary information is used for averages only, and
is completely confidential. Annual Placement Statistics are available on the Business Career Center website.
-
Job Acceptances
-
Students will discontinue interviewing upon the acceptance of an offer. Students will honor all employment
agreements with companies. CARS privileges will be suspended if you renege on an offer
that you have already accepted. Please also contact the BCC to cancel any pending interviews you may have.
And submit your offer info in CARS!
-
Student Correspondence
-
A timely reply by students to all correspondence from companies (or our office) is
necessary. ALL INVITATIONS TO HAVE AN INTERVIEW ON CAMPUS
MUST BE ACKNOWLEDGED WHETHER OR NOT THE STUDENT PLANS TO INTERVIEW.
The student should contact the company if he or she decides not to interview there.
That interviewer may be a contact for a future job.
-
Emergency Closings
-
When the University is closed, the BCC will also be closed that day
and evening. Please contact us the next working day regarding rescheduling
of cancelled activities.
-
Drug Testing
-
Please note that it is common for companies to conduct pre-employment drug
screening. If a student refuses or fails the test, he or she may be denied employment.
-
Accommodations
-
If you require an accommodation because of a disability, please contact
the Business Career Center at (612) 624-0011.
